MK3 Rulez.

October 8, 2010

Hey Gang.  Welcome to the new MK3 page.  Check out all the fun stuff.  We have some live recordings and [...]

“MK3 is a trio version of Brooklyn’s The MK Groove Orchestra. This outlaw big band is the two-headed brainchild of saxophonist Mike Kammers and swings like one wild and reckless big-band bastard. Kammers clearly enjoys grinding the gears as much as he does shifting smoothly with the larger ensemble. And with this intimate opportunity to dig the trio, we may get a closer look under the hood at all the horn-driven blood and guts. I predict just as much angular bombast and swingin’ shenanigans. Duck.” – Frank De Blase, Critics Picks, City (Rochester) 8.10.10

“MK3, led by our friend Mike Kammers, puts on a sweaty, funky, almost overwhelmingly badass show. Picture what John Coltrane, Black Sabbath and the Bad Plus’ three-way love child would sound like, and you will sort of get an idea of what you’re in for.” -Dan Reitz

“What we do is so much more valid than performance art.” – Chris Kuklis

Delivering a unique blend of instrumental craftsmanship developed in Brooklyn and honed on the road, MK3 is the touring unit of the much larger13 piece Space Funk Big Band, The MK Groove Orchestra. A mobile laboratory creating and exploring the DNA of the large ensemble, stretching original compositions to their limits, and exploring cover pieces influential to the groups canon, MK3 hits hard and takes no prisoners.
